About Us
SAGE was started by Laurie Goldner and Tom Meyer in January 1998. Unlike many small businesses that begin after years of planning and preparation, they were abruptly launched into the environmental consulting business “kicking and screaming” when they both lost their jobs on the same day. Starting with two computers and two folding tables, SAGE operated out of the basement of their home for the first year and a half. By October 1999, with several good contracts and a core group of employees, SAGE had outgrown the basement and was well on its way to becoming a successful business.
Tom and Laurie combined their expertise in the environmental field and enthusiasm for working together to build a small company with a reputation for doing high quality work and offering our clients personal attention. SAGE has also endeavored to provide a good working environment for our employees, which has resulted in a high degree of employee retention. Much of our work comes from repeat business, a good indicator that our clients feel that we provide quality service at a reasonable cost.
After Tom’s unexpected death in January 2006, Laurie assumed leadership of the company. Due to the dedication of all of SAGE’s employees and support from our clients, the company has continued to prosper since then. Tom Meyer’s vision, attention to detail, and commitment to quality provided a foundation for the growth of the company and still guide SAGE today.
