SAGE provides a complete range of services related to the management of soil and ground water contamination resulting from releases of petroleum products from Underground Storage Tanks (USTs), Aboveground Storage Tanks (ASTs) and other sources. SAGE is an approved consultant under Utah's Petroleum Storage Tank (PST) fund and provides both Utah-certified UST Consultants and Soil and Ground Water Samplers.
UST removals can only occur after a Closure Plan has been approved by the Utah Division of Environmental Response and Remediation. Soil and ground water are sampled after removal to document any potential release. If a release has occurred, limited excavation of contaminated soil is allowable under the supervision of a UST Consultant, followed by confirmation sampling. If excavation at the time of removal is not successful at removing all petroleum contaminated soil, a site investigation is later conducted to determine the extent of the contamination.
SAGE conducts investigations at facilities ranging from small commercial sites to large industrial operations. Our investigations may include evaluating and defining hydrogeologic parameters, identifying soil and ground water contaminant concentrations and distributions, calculating free product volume, and conducting fate and transport modeling. If appropriate, we collect data necessary for the risk based closure and/or the development of natural attenuation remedial alternatives. If remediation is necessary, we prepare and implement Corrective Action Plans including such techniques as soil vapor extraction (SVE), high vacuum extraction (HVE), air sparging, and chemical oxidation. In cases where soil contamination is shallow and accessible, excavation is the simplest, quickest, and least expensive option.
